Merry Christmass from Linecasters 2005

Dear Fly Fishermen and Hunters,

It's the festive season again and I'm afraid no rest for the guides! We will be on standby to assist visiting fly fishermen where we can!

Linecasters would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone -

A Merry Christmas and a wonderfully Prosperous New Year!

Drop us an e-mail in the New Year, we are very interested to hear from you.

HOLIDAY NEWS - FRESH WATER

R.E.F.F.I.S South Africa:

As most of you probably know by now, Linecasters in conjunction with Dr. Mario du Preez has established R.E.F.F.I.S South Africa. R.E.F.F.I.S is an International School of Instructors, and have agreed that we (Fred Steynberg and Dr.Mario du Preez) establish a sister organization under the same banner in Rhodes, South Africa, to accredit potential South African guides. Therefore we are proud to announce that the next R.E.F.F.I.S South Africa prep course will be held on the 19 and 20 January 2006 with the theoretical and practical exam following on the 21 January 2006. For more information please do not hesitate to contact us.

Rhodes and surrounding rivers:

Unfortunately the state of the rivers have deteriorated somewhat over the past few weeks. Most of the upper and lower reaches of our rivers are almost too low and clear to negotiate with a fly rod. The lower reaches of the Sterkspruit and upper to middle reaches of the Kraai are still producing large amounts of yellows and good size trout (between 13 and 18 inches). A mere two weeks ago, when the Bokspruit still had a reasonable flow we caught a number of trout between 14 and 16 inches, this is a good sign for the new year .

Linecasters Advanced Academy November 2005:

The Advanced Academy hosted by Fred Steynberg and Tom Suttcliffe turned out to be a huge success. The clients can often make or break a course such as this, but yet again we were fortunate to have some of the nicest fly fishermen taking part. We are hoping to have a repeat of the advanced academy in November 2007. There have been numerous requests for cheaper more family orientated academies, it will really help if any interested parties could contact us so that we can establish a date and the validity thereof.

SALT WATER

Linecasters has also just returned from a rekkie trip to Kilwa in Tanzania, although the wind threatened to blow us off the water the first couple of days, we eventually hooked and landed large numbers of good sized fish (at times spotting shoals of Kingfish 30m long and 20m wide below the surface). This is a unique venue set on the southern shoreline of Tanzania and boast with a rich historical heritage dating back to the 14 century slave trade days. The two fly fishing friends that accompanied me on this trip enjoyed it so much that we have decided to return at the end of February 2006. Five days fishing, six nights accommodation plus airfare, boats and petrol will cost in the vacinity of R14 000.00 to R16 000.00. Anyone interested in joining this trip should contact Fred.

Thanks again for all your support!

Regards

Fred Steynberg and Family
